What’s Up February 2018

Isn’t it crazy what a difference 3 less days can make in a month, I can’t believe today is the last day of February.  Once March hits, I feel like spring is on the way.  I love these little recaps because I am always shocked at how much you can fit into just one month’s time!  It was a very full 28 days!

What we’ve been up to —

When I go to the gym, this little one gets her exercise in too!  They recently added a fun play area complete with tunnels and trampoline and she loves it!  The workers have cared for all my kids since they were babies so they send me pictures of Miss Lucy occasionally!

I had my first speaking engagement of the year in Fort Dodge, Iowa which happens to be where my bestie grew up.  She came along and after my talk, she showed me her hometown and ate at her favorite Mexican place.  It was so good!  It was such a fun day!
Vera got her glasses.  She tried on a few pairs and it was between two. She picked these and has been doing great taking care of them and wearing them everyday!

We had a couple of good old-fashioned snow days along with some ice.  The kids loved playing around in it all.
Lucy is really into reading.  I found her like this one morning while I was getting ready.  Her leg cross slays me!
My sister and brother-in-law came to town for my sister’s shower.  They came a few days early to spend time with us.  So, Lucy and I took them to story time!
Then, they were champs and helped Solon with his Iowa State football valentine box!

We went to the store for supplies for the shower.  Everyone has more fun with Auntie and Uncle!

My mom came up from AZ too so we had a girls day shopping and Lucy got to come along.  She enjoyed herself a little bit (as you can tell from the photo).

We all cheered Solon on his basketball game.  He was so excited for all the cheering and the fan club!

We had my sister’s shower.  My cousin and my grandma were able to make it too so we had 4 generations to celebrate!  Read about the shower here.
We enjoyed the weekend with everyone and had to get a family selfie to commemorate the occasion!

We also celebrated my Grandma’s birthday a few days early.  She shares my love for birthday cake!

Scott went with Vera to a special father-daughter dance class at her dance studio.  He Brough her home a rose which she adored.  He also got my tulips on February 13th because he knew I would be surprised!

On February 14th, it was warm enough to play outside and enjoy the snow finally.  We built a snowman that promptly melted that evening :)!

We also enjoyed heart-shaped pancakes, heart-shaped pizza and yummy chocolate covered strawberries the kids made with Scott.

We took an overnight trip to Eastern Iowa to celebrate Scott’s Grandma turning 98 next month.  The kids had fun with their cousins and enjoyed pool time, an indoor play place and we all had fun playing games and eating out together!  Read more about the trip here.

We had follow-up dental appointments on the day off of school and then we went to Walmart to pick out a few prizes.  New emoji pajamas and an American Girl fish tank set were the coveted prizes!
With all the snow days, we also dug out some oldie but goodie toys!  We had whole cities of magna-tiles, Little Critters, magna-tiles, and duplos!

We finished our bathroom project — you can see more here.

We watched a lot of the Winter Olympics and took our turn at hockey in the family room!

We also tested out our new spring wardrobe and hair clips Grandma got us!
We spent some time writing our own books.  Solon is working on a Dogman-style book about a fish and some seaweed.  Vera wrote a how-to book on how to make popcorn!  Lucy worked hard too!

We went to our tax appointment and met Fred the fish!  Then, celebrated with lunch at our favorite wacky pizza spot, Fong’s pizza.  They have crab rangoon pizza that is so good!

We had a date night and went to a charity auction! We had the most fun and laughed so hard because we won the wall of wine raffle (that’s 36 bottles of wine) as well as a 2 night stay in a tiny house this summer.  The kids can hardly wait for our little family trip! I jumped around a room full of strangers like I won the lottery!  #noshame
I got a new phone so that meant I needed a new photo for my background.  Everyone obliged me after church!

Vera needed new tennis shoes for school so her and I headed out just the two of us to find some.  The girl knows what she wants and picked some that look just like her big cousin Grace has!  She was especially excited because they tie!

What I’m Dreading —

Remember, last month I told you that we found out l that Vera has some genetic teeth conditions that needed some extensive work.  She had her first procedure and she rocked it, we have the next one scheduled for early March.   I was also dreading eye appointments but Solon’s eye condition is stable (answered prayer) and Vera did need glasses but thankfully no additional eye therapy or patching which is a huge relief!
Other than that, my dear friend Jennifer and her family are moving to Virginia. They have been in our couples small group since they moved to town nearly 5 years ago.  We will miss them like crazy.

What I’m Working On —

I am really excited about a couple of exciting projects in the works for Perfectly Port Family!  I can’t wait to share them with you but until then I am working away over here on things :)!  You can see my March goals in this post!  It will give you a hint as to what I am up to!
What I’m excited about —

Our home study is complete! All the praise hands and happy dances.  We are sending off our I-800A form any day now (the preliminary immigration paperwork), it theoretically takes 6-8 weeks to approve and in the meantime we will begin work on our dossier.  I said this last month but I do owe you an adoption update soon.  Just know there’s a whole lot of paperwork, emailing, more paperwork and expectant hearts over here ;)!

Vitamin D – we are headed to sunny Arizona soon and I cannot wait! My parents gifted us tickets for Christmas.

What I’m watching and reading —

When Calls the Heart is back and I absolutely adore that show.  You can get caught up on Netflix.

The Bachelor.  I love Becca but I think he picks Lauren (I have no idea, just my guess).  Becca for next bachelorette. If you watch The Bachelor you need to read Sheaffer’s recaps, they are spot on and hilarious :).

Just Finished Reading –
Sisters First by Jenna Bush Hager & Barbara Pierce Bush

I love learning more about the behind the scenes and this book made me laugh, tear up and was fascinating but at times relatable.

What I’m listening to —

I am still catching up on old Business Boutique podcast with Christy Wright.  I also have been re-listening to the Mom Blog School Podcast as well as my favorites Young House Love has a Podcast and Emily P. Freeman’s Next Right Thing.

We are also listening to Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (book 4) whenever Solon is in the car with me!  It’s 17 disks long so we might still be listening to it next month.  We finished book 3 in February and watched the movie.  We both agreed it wasn’t as good as the book!  I love this little thing we have going together ;)!

What I’m Wearing —

Every month I forget to take pictures until I start thinking about this post so this is what I have worn the last month of February not including my chunky sweaters, graphic tees, pajama pants and ugg slippers!
