Life Lately Volume 5

Hey, don’t forget today is Amazon Prime Day.  Read my post about my top tips and wishlist here.  Life has been happening lately and I have not documented it since the last week of June so It’s about time!  Read my last life lately post here. Hold on to your seats as I share the photo overload!  Let’s get started…

Scott’s 98-year-old Grandma and Aunt and Uncle came over to his parent’s house for lunch one day!  She is so much fun to hang out with and tells the best stories.  Lucy is holding her birthday card from Great Grandma Olive!

Scott’s Aunt and Uncle live in Texas so we don’t see them very often.  It was fun to catch up with them as well.

That week I also headed to my first Femcity event with my friend and Sarah and met Laura (owner of AR Workshop) in real life.  We know each other through the social media world but fun to finally meet in person.  We had so much fun sharing business tips and encouraging one another!

Dinner at McAlister’s Deli in Des Moines was a hit.  We met up with the other Des Moines Moms Blog contributors for a soft opening!

Lucy also had hew first injury.  She and Solon were dancing around on a freshly mopped floor and they collided about 15 minutes before I was expecting guests.  I had to quickly cancel the party and take her to urgent care.  Scott was at an awards ceremony.  Thankfully, it wasn’t broken but she did not walk on it for about 2 weeks!

Despite a bum leg, we made the most of Lucy’s 3rd birthday.  We opened presents as a family in the morning and then headed to our dear friends for lunch and then we went bowling together at Bass Pro Shop!

We finished Lucy’s 3rd birthday (read more about her at 3 here) by having dinner at Papa and Nana’s.  Papa always makes our kids a cake of their choice.  Lucy chose a Poppy cake this year.

That Friday, we headed for a week-long vacation at my parent’s lake home in Minnesota.  My cousin Bailey from Texas was in town for the weekend and we enjoyed catching up with him!

It was so hot, we spent a lot of time jumping off the boat in the middle of the lake, cruising around the lake in the boat, jet-skiing, and tubing :)!

My sister, brother-in-law and new niece arrived on Sunday!  The kids loved meeting her for the first time and I snuck snuggles every chance I got!  Since we were all together, we took the opportunity one evening to get some family photos!

My grandparents, Aunt, and cousin from Washington as well as my cousins from MN all came as well.  We had a full house and had to capture a group photo on the 4th of July!

We spent the week playing hard, laying on the screened in porch, playing games, eating, and you name it – we did it!  We slept well every single night.  I also taught Solon and Vera how to water-ski.  We have some more work to do but they both got up :)!

On the 4th of July, we all piled into the boat and watched the fireworks cascade over the lake.  It’s one of my favorite traditions of the year :)!

We left the lake on Saturday of that week to head home and have dinner with our MN cousins on the other side since they were coming home from Arkansas.  We met up at my inlaws for pizza and swimming!

By Sunday, we were all ready to just chill out after church and play in the backyard.  We did sneak off to the pool late in the afternoon as a family as well!

This last week we spent lots of time at the pool and hanging out at home rediscovering old toys, sleeping in, watching movies and staying in our PJs!  Lucy also had her first ever camp.  It was finally her turn to do something special and she loved every single moment.  We signed her up for a morning dance class in the fall and she can hardly wait.

We met up with friends at the pool and even showed up matching 🙂

We also met our friends, The Livingston’s, at their pool for dinner and swimming.  We were in a small group together before we had kids and now there are 8 kids between us :).  They live about an hour away now so it’s always special when we can schedule a get-together!

We ended the week with our town’s local festival, Summerfest.  We went to the parade with my inlaws and dear friends.  The kids came home with so much candy and the coolest shades from my friend Laura at the AR Workshop!

Saturday night, we had the Porter’s over for pizza and s’mores.  We also played kids vs. adults capture the flag.  We were all sweating by the end but we had a blast!  A perfect summer evening.

Sunday, marked the beginning of VBS so we headed there and then raced home to watch our town’s fireworks with our neighbors.  We can see them right from our front yard.  A great way to end a super fun weekend.  Now, I hope I don’t lose my voice this week.  I love VBS week and so do the kids!

So, there’s a hodgepodge of life lately.  I am tired just reliving it but that is what summer is made of – lots of fun, family, friends, and adventures.  I’ll be back later this week with more fun but don’t forget today is Amazon Prime Day!  I shared my top tips and wishlist, you can read more here.

Until next time keep on keeping on with a simple purposeful life!
