Life Lately Volume 8

It’s been a hot second since I updated you all on what we have been up to lately.  Somehow, it’s the end of September and my last life lately post was in August.  We are now in full on fall mode around here and the weather matches which makes me do the happy dance, put on all the layers and snuggle up in my favorite new blanket.

Since I am still in a post women’s retreat haze, I thought the perfect way to break back into blogging would be to recap what we have been up to!  Thank you for all the well wishes and prayers, the retreat was a sweet taste of heaven!  I just loved getting to minister to the women and they invited me right into their lives, it was incredible!  It seems silly to say but I truly found my heart’s passion.

But let’s get back to the current matter at hand, life lately for our crew!  Can I just say thank goodness my iPhone has dates next to pictures?  My brain is so thankful :)!

At the end of August, our cousins moved to Texas from Minnesota and they stopped by on their way down.  We are going to miss having them “closer” but we hear San Antonio is a great place to visit so we will add it to our list.  Our kids hope we will see them in China because we are both adopting with the same agency!

On labor day weekend we went to the home opener for Iowa State football.  My parents graciously buy season tickets for all of us to go with them.  We have a lot of fun tailgating with both my parents and Scott’s parents and my cousin Madelynne.  The game started out so fun with parachuters bringing in the American flag but there was a weather delay due to bad weather after we scored a touchdown in the first 3 minutes of the game.  We tried to wait it out but they ended up canceling the game.  It will make for a really good memory for all of us.

While my parents were in town on Labor Day weekend we went out to our favorite orchard!  We swam in the corn pool, picked apples, rode the train, jumped on the jumping pillow, did the apple slingshot and more.  It truly is a highlight of our fall.  This year the orchard ran a 1/2 price season tickets deal so I picked up 5 season passes!  We are heading out there again soon :)!

Our fall activities started up and this year Lucy gets to take a little dance class too.  She LOVES it, she practically floats the entire time with the biggest smile on her face.  Since we decided to wait on preschool for another year, it’s fun for her to have something she gets to do.  Vera is doing dance and acrobatics classes again and Solon is currently in flag football and basketball conditioning!  Carpool saves my life :)!

On September 12th, Miss Vera turned 7 (you can read more about her here).  She requested an art rainbow party and then an acrobatics cake made by Papa.  I will share all the details of her simple but fun rainbow party soon.  She requested Panera bagels for dinner on her birthday and Orange Leaf for dessert.

My dad came from PA to the next home game and we all SWEATED to death.  The girls and I mostly hung inside the club because it was SO hot (heat indexes 100+) and we ended up losing.  However, when you are an ISU fan, you are always forever true :)!

We finally got our fall bucket list made and we all had fun brainstorming what fun activities we wanted to make sure to include in our fall schedule.  You can read more about last year’s fall bucket list and why we make bucket lists here.

Last week Lucy and I walked to the library for story time and then an unexpected storm blew through so we got stuck at the library.  We met some friends and they told us about a fun new class called Movers & Shakers, a singing and dance class.  Since we were stuck, we went and Lucy loved it.  We will add that to our weekly routine!  We did make it home because our sweet neighbors happened to come to the library and saved us in their white minivan rescue vehicle!  Speaking of rain, the kids had fun playing in it that afternoon!

We have been all pretty tuckered out from school and activities lately so we have enjoyed snuggling up on the couch as a family and watching some of our favorite shows.  The kids love Counting On and Outdaughtered on TLC.  We watch about half a show and bake some refrigerated cookies to end our days.  I love this new little routine.

My friend snapped this photo from last weekend but I am so thankful for the chance to lead a women’s retreat.  It’s always been a dream of mine to be a motivational speaker.  I am so thankful for Scott holding down the fort and the ladies who treated me like one of their own at camp!  I want to send my kids to camp now next summer!  If you need a speaker or know someone who does, I would so appreciate you passing my name along :)!

We finished the weekend at flag football with both sets of grandparents and Solon scored his team’s first touchdown of the season.  He was awarded a medal for most effort as well.  He works so hard, hustles and never gives up.  He’s definitely an example to me!

So, there’s a little life lately.  The weather has cooled down and I am enjoying walking with friends on the trails and the kids are loving they can play outside with friends after school.  Now, it’s time to get caught up on the to-do list, laundry with a good dose of snuggling up on the couch!  I’ll be back on Friday for Friday Favorites, it’s been a while since I have shared what I am loving :)!  What have you been up to lately?

Until next time keep on keeping on with a simple purposeful life!
