5 Reasons to Hire an Interior Designer

I always thought hiring an interior designer was something reserved for the rich and the famous.  However, when we started the process of moving all of our kids to a new room in, I literally was paralyzed by all of the decorating decisions.

I was most stumped by the girls’ new joint sister room because I wanted it to maximize storage and function while giving them a sweet feminine retreat.  So, I visited one of my favorite local stores, Suite Dreams, for some design inspiration.  After chatting with Suite Dreams owner, Lisa, about my dilemma she told me about their design consultation services.

So, Lisa and Simi Swanson (Suite Dreams Interior Designer) made a house call to discuss our needs and my vision for the girls’ new space.  By the time they left, I was convinced everyone needs to seek professional design assistance.  Not only is professional design assistance not reserved for the elite, I wanted to share 5 reasons why I think everyone should hire an interior designer.

1 – Save Money & Stay on Budget

Most of us have a finite amount of money to spend on a project and making the right decisions the first time are important.  Hiring an interior designer will help you purposefully spend your money on investment staple pieces like furniture that will stand the test of time and trends.  They can help find more affordable accent accessories and finishes that make space unique while staying on budget.

2 – Save Time & Sanity

I could spend hours on Pinterest pinning inspiration ideas and still not know where to even start.  When designing a whole room, I can be crippled with all of the little decisions that need to be made from wall color to bedding, curtains and what art will go on the wall.  Rather, than spinning your wheels, shopping and searching, a designer can help you find what you are looking for in a timely manner.  All the praise hands for that!

3- Pull Your Vision Together

My Pinterest board was chalk full of inspiration and ideas.  However, I had no idea how to execute my vision.  Simi and Lisa from Suite Dreams listened as I shared during our at-home consultation and they were able to pull together ideas that mirrored what I wanted in a way that looked cohesive and thoughtful.

4 – Professional Eye

Interior designers have a trained eye.  They know how to fill the space with right-proportioned furnishings and accessories.  Since the girls’ room is modest in size, Simi suggested a mirror over the girls’ dresser to expand the space. Interior designers will see things the average homeowner will miss in the process.  They also know where to hang fixtures and how to mix and match colors, patterns, finishes, and textures for a natural, cohesive look. You can see the vision for the girls’ space in this post.

5 – Make a WOW Space

I don’t know about you but when I take on a project I get about 95% of the way done and I call it good.  A designer’s job is to dazzle you.  They will help you finish off those last little details and touches that make your space feel finished and give it the wow factor.  A designer will help you make a space you are proud to call your own, one you will want to spend time in and share with those you love.

If you are local, Suite Dream in Des Moines offers in-home consultations for all budgets.  They have cribs starting at $349.  We purchased our nursery furniture there over nine years ago and it’s still going strong, just waiting for baby #4!  We then went back about 5 years ago to purchase bunk beds.  Suite Dreams offers in-home consultations starting at $50.

I can’t wait to share the girls’ new shared sister’s space with you soon.  I do know this, the girls can hardly wait.  Until then, you can check out our vision for their new space here.

Until next time keep on keeping on with a simple purposeful life!
