Baby, It’s Cold Outside Shower

My sister is having a baby so of course we had to throw a shower!  We were all a little nervous about hosting a shower in February with snow but thankfully, almost everyone made it and the snow paired nicely with our Baby, Its Cold Outside theme!  #thanksmothernature  My brother-in-law’s parents came from Las Vegas, my sister and brother-in-law came from Seattle, my dad made it from Pennsylvania and my mom flew in from Arizona plus so many sweet guests that drove from all over the midwest!

My sister found the Baby, It’s Cold Outside theme on Pinterest.  My mom got to work buying decor on clearance immediately after Christmas.  She got all the little artificial trees for $1 or $2 each at Michael’s and Target.  Then, we got the snowflake garlands, snowflake accordions and window clings on Amazon!  We hung it all up with tiny command hooks like these.

My mom ordered the invites on Minted and she ordered the thank you cards to go with so at the shower we had each guest address their thank you to help my sister out.  She ended up writing her thank you cards on the airplane ride home!  Speaking of which, we made up a rhyme on the back of the invite to ask guests to please ship their gifts to Seattle and bring a photo wrapped up for her to open.

We had to have a few activities for the shower!  She is a huge music lover so her only request was to have people write down suggestions for her push playlist.  How cute is that?  The suggestions were both sweet and hilarious!  I personally liked the suggestions Push It and Get Low ;)!

We had each guest decorate a baby diaper so when they are up changing baby at all hours of the night, they can have a little laugh!  My favorite was – Be nice! Someday I will be changing your diaper!

Since, my brother-in-law works for Amazon, we did a Price is Right game where the guests had to write down what they thought different baby items would cost based on Amazon prices.  Who would have thought my Grandma (86 years old) and Vera would be the winners?

We played Ice Ice Baby where guests had to free the baby from the ice cube and yell “my water broke”. (we found them here).  Last but not least, we played an ABC game.  We gave Ellen the ABC’s and she had to write a baby item that corresponded with each letter.  The guest that had the most in common won!

Vera rescued the rest of the frozen babies!

After the games, we opened presents.  In addition to the photographs of the presents, we asked them to bring a favorite baby book.  She got a great start to baby’s library.  We had markers for people to sign their books with a message too!  Lucy enjoyed previewing them for her baby cousin!

The guests snacked on yummy food and the signature drink, mom-osas!  Ellen requested Chick Fila nuggets (her pregnancy craving) and we also had veggie pizza, mini chicken salad croissant sandwiches, spinach-artichoke dip, guacamole, tiramisu cake,  snowball cookies, mini chocolate chip cookies and strawberries.

My mom found the melamine plates at TJ Maxx (25 for $9.99). They were disposable but super study and looked so cute paired with the snowflake napkins she found on Amazon.

We had a wonderful day celebrating.  It’s so exciting reliving those moments before you become a mom and encouraging my sister in this stage of life.  May 8th can’t come soon enough, but I guessed the 15th in the baby pool so I guess that’s the day ;).  I also guessed boy but we will have to wait to see!

My baby shower theme was Pickles and Ice Cream (see it here).  I feel like I just threw Ellen her Tie the Knot bridal shower and Last Sail Before the Veil bachelorette party but it was 3 years ago, time flies!  Are you throwing any parties lately?
Until next time, keep on keeping on with a joyful, faith-filled, intentional life.  #tribekoko
