It’s almost time for Halloween and who doesn’t love an excuse to ding dong ditch?  If you live in the midwest, you might be familiar with May Day.   This activity is similar and a great way to create community in your neighborhood and spread a little joy this Halloween season.

Boo Your Neighbors Halloween Activity Directions

To start, all you need to do is assemble some special treats in a bag, lunch sack, or plastic tote.  Then, print off the Boo Your Neighbor Printable by signing up here.  Print 2 copies of the printable and then choose 2 neighbors or friends to “boo”.  If you are feeling extra festive, you can boo even more people!

You will want to wear your running shoes because you will drop the treat bag on their door step, ring the bell and run.  You might want to check and make sure they are home first because it’s most fun if they find it while you are dashing away.

Once, you deliver the boo treats, the recipient should copy 2 Boo Your Neighbors PDF Printables, hang the “we’ve been boo-ed” sign on their door and then boo 2 more people.  Hopefully, everyone will be boo-ed in time for Halloween!

Fun Things and Great Ideas to Include in Your Boo Basket

  • Goodie bag, gift bag, gift basket or halloween themed plastic bowls
  • Halloween Candy
  • Little trinkets
  • Glow sticks
  • Stickers
  • Scary fake spider rings
  • Homemade Slime or Silly Putty
  • Tattoos
  • Halloween crafts
  • Snacks like popcorn, Goldfish, granola bars, or fruit snacks
  • Boo Basket Free Printable PDF

We like to grab our fun items and small toys at places like the Target Dollar Spot, Walmart, Dollar Tree, local dollar store or Party City. They always have a good selection of different things and all sorts of fun little treats to include in you boo basket. The options are endless for what to include in this fun tradition.

Make sure you include enough for each child in the family that you are gifting the bag to!  The best part is you include young kids, children with food allergies, and even older neighbors in this fun activity. Just don’t forget to tuck in the free printable sign in your boo bag as well. You can get them right here.

Get ready to have some Halloween fun with your family. It’s become one of our favorite October traditions to drop a basket of Halloween goodies on our neighbor’s porches.

How About An Adult Boo Basket?

This isn’t just fun for little kids. It’s for the entire neighborhood. Have a few adult neighbors who could use a little cheer? Add an adult beverage, a bottle of wine, a cute fall decor item and add a fall recipe with the ingredients in a tote. You are never too old to get boo-ed! These 3-ingredient pumpkin muffins ingredients are one of my favorite things to include. The whole neighborhood can be part of the fun and the nostalgia of the doorbell ditch is fun for young and old alike

Are you ready for some serious fun?

Remember, it’s all about having fun. It’s so fun to both boo and get boo-ed. When you hear that doorbell, you better dash and see if you can find who “boo-ed” you and left that goodie basket on your porch.  Leave a comment and let me know if you do this tradition in your neighborhood. I promise you it’s an easy way for some real fun. Once you do it for the first time, you will add this fun halloween activity to your yearly halloween activities.

Happy Halloween!  Now, go boo your neighbors!
