Create Simple Holiday Photo Cards Now

**This post is sponsored by Basic Invite, all opinions are my own.

Ready or not, Christmas is coming!  If your mind is already aching, you aren’t alone.   However, now is the perfect time to get started on one particular task – holiday photo cards.  Not only is the weather is perfect for capturing a cozy outdoor photo but you can get your holiday photo card checked off that to-do list now!  I am going to share all my tips for creating meaningful, personalized Christmas cards now that you can send later!

Start By Taking A Family Photo

Often times, this task alone can stop you in your tracks.  I subscribe to the acronym KISS (keep it, simple sweetheart).  Don’t worry if you didn’t book a professional photographer, we didn’t this year either.  We opted to take our own family photo because fingers crossed, our son will be coming home soon (read more here) and want to save the professional photographs for when our family is complete!

So, I picked out some outfits from my kids’ closets that centered around my favorite color navy blue.  Then, we all wore those outfits to church.  Yes, we looked like a walking talking Christmas card but who cares?  Right after church while we were out and everyone was relatively happy, we snapped a few photos in my in-laws’ backyard.

Ask yourself these questions to help you get started –

What’s your favorite color?

What do we have in our closet?

Is there a place close by that has a beautiful background?

Order your Christmas Cards Now

This year, I ordered my holiday photo cards online through Basic Invite.  They have over 500 Christmas card and holiday card designs.   I had never used them before but what I loved was that I could customize the colors and choose to highlight my favorite color navy to be a part of my design!

Basic Invite is one of the few websites that allows customers almost unlimited color options with instant previews online. Once you select a design you can change the color of each element on the card to over 180 different color options so you can make sure the card is exactly how you want it down to the littlest detail.  How cool is that?

Customers can choose from over 40 different colors when it comes to their envelopes so that they can make their invitation stand out even before it is opened. All of the envelopes are peel and seal so the envelopes can be quickly and securely closed without licking a single one. My tongue thanks them :)!

They also have an address capturing service which allows customers to simply share a link on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or any other form of social media to request their friends and family’s addresses which will be stored in the customer’s account and can then be selected during the design process. Basic Invite offers recipient address printing at no cost on all Christmas card orders.  Shut the front door!

Right now Basic Invite is offering 30% off with coupon code: holi30 on all their online Christmas cards and holiday photo cards.

Purchase Stamps & Stamp Cards

Once you have ordered your cards, you can order your holiday stamps online.  The USPS holiday collection is already available.  Purchase your stamps and when your online Christmas cards arrive, you will be ready for a little family stamping party while you jam out to some holiday tune.  It’s never too soon right?

Save & Send at Christmas

Store them away (don’t forget where) and then December 1st drop them in the mailbox.  You will thank yourself for taking care of this task now.

What do you do with your old Christmas Cards?

This year, we got an additional tree to put in my office.  We plan to tuck our old Christmas cards and photos with Santa into the branches on the tree.  It’s fun to reminisce about years gone by and display past cards!  For the cards, we receive I punch a hole in Christmas cards and put them on a ring like this so we can enjoy them all year long.  We have done this for several years.  We keep them in a basket in our living room and we all enjoy looking at them year round.

I am off to buy some stamps because my cards and printed and ready to go, cue the happy dance!  If you are wanting more inspiration to help you get ahead of the holiday planning game, check out 10 Things To Do Now for Christmas and 5 Simple Ways to Stay Sane this Christmas.  You can also check out all my top picks for Christmas gifts here.
