Soap scum on shower doors is the bane of my existence. I mean showers are meant for soap so why does it have to leave a nasty residue? When we had our new shower door installed, I asked the local experts and found a few simple tips that have helped us eliminate shower door soap scum.

Soften Your Water

We live in the hard water capitol of the United States. What I didn’t know is that soap scum forms when soap reacts with hard water. This means soap scum is going to build up unless you soften your water.

We had a water softener installed and it’s made a huge difference in keeping the soap scum at bay.

Dry Your Shower Door

Eliminate soap scum build-up by eliminating soapy water from your shower door. When soapy water dries it leaves that soap scum film.

Make it a habit to either wipe down your shower door with a towel after use or squeegee it. This squeegee is similar to ours.

It sounds like a more of a pain than it is, once you get in the habit, it will just take an extra minute before you get out of the shower. That’s less time than you’ll spend scrubbing off the soap scum later.

Switch to Liquid Soap

This was news to me but bar soaps have a different composition than liquid soaps which are comprised of more detergent. So, liquid soaps actually leave less soap scum behind.

Regularly Clean with a Glass Shower Door Cleaner

Not all cleaners are created equally and this glass shower door cleaner came highly recommended by those that installed our door. Not only will it shine up your shower door in a jiffy, it will keep your shower door working long into the future.

We have made some of these simple switches and it’s been months since I have worked up a sweat getting that dreaded soap scum off of our shower doors. You don’t want pretty shower doors marred by soap scum so I’ll be over here squeegeeing away!
