Life Lately Volume 12 January 2019

We have nearly wrapped up the first month of 2019.  January was a much more low-key month but we still managed to fit in a lot of fun, a whole lot of basketball and plenty of downtime too!  Before we move into February, let’s take a look back at a little life lately around here.

January started off pretty quiet as we rounded our holiday break.  The kids re-discovered old toys, turned boxes into boats to watch tv and of course we made our winter bucket list.  You can read more about why we love bucket lists here.

Since we had some downtime and a slew of new gifts to put away, we took the opportunity to declutter and organize.  I like to do it every so often.  I store all the toys on the main floor in our toy closet, you can read more about that here.

Solon had more basketball tournaments this month so we had a couple of picnic lunches with our dear friends.  One weekend it was SO warm we celebrated a great day of games by heading to the park.  Oh I miss those temps now that our high today is supposed to be -8 (the high I repeat).

One of my goals for the month of January was to do some fun family adventures.  So, one Sunday after church we went out for lunch and on a research trip to Staples.  I was trying to get my juices flowing for the spring launch for the Simple Purposeful Living Shop.  Solon really wanted me to include GIANT sticky notes but I am not sure that will make the cut.  I have decided we can find fun anywhere!

Then, another Friday we picked up Scott from work a little early and went out to dinner and to Hobby Lobby.  I was looking for some things to finish off Quincy’s nursery.  We came up short but the kids thought the giant roses were pretty cool.  Will you accept this rose?

Winter finally decided to show up and once it did, it hasn’t stopped.  The first snow storm was perfect though, we got about 6 inches.  The temps were right about 32 degrees, no wind, and the snow was perfect for making snowmen.  We have checked a bunch of snow activities off of our bucket list.  Lucy was pumped to finally make her very own Olaf.

We also trudged around in the field behind our house since they will be building a neighborhood there in the spring.  We will certainly miss “our land” out back ;)!

I finally bit the bullet and invested in a Mac Book Pro but thanks to so many of your recommendations I ended up buying a refurbished one through Apple.  It looks and operates like its brand-new and I saved a little money which was nice.  Lucy enjoys “working on” my old, non-working laptop from grad school!

We also spent some time in the kitchen.  Vera helped me make this easy 4-ingredient chicken pot pie (find the recipe here) along with some delicious cookies.

We enjoyed getting back into our weekly routine and one of Lucy’s favorite mornings of the week is when we head to the library for story time and a class called “Movers & Shakers”.

Solon wrapped up his basketball season and Scott was his assistant coach.  Solon grew so much playing in this new league and has fallen in love with the game of basketball.  Solon is already looking forward to next season with his favorite coach!

We finished off January with a quick trip to Nebraska for Scott’s company Christmas party.  His company is based there and thankfully our dear friends took our kids since both of our parents are enjoying warmer climates right now.  We had fun bowling, taking pictures in the photo booth and hanging out with his co-workers.

Meanwhile, our kids were living their best life with their best friends and having their first slumber party with friends.  They were sad to see us come home ;).

January, was also a big month in the life of our adoption.  We completed our home study update as well as moved up to #1 in line for our agency which means our next to get matched.  We have been logged in since July and patiently waiting since then in line.  Since we are so close, hopefully, we also made an appointment to get our kids passports renewed and ready to go.  Hopefully, we will have more news to share soon!  Thank you for your continued prayers!

February will be a busy month!  I am going to my first blogging/work conference in San Diego, Vera will wrap up her basketball season and we will celebrate Valentine’s Day.

Until next time keep on keeping on with a simple purposeful life!
