Life Lately Volume 11 December 2018

It’s the first day back to reality after a blissful break. Last year, we nearly killed ourselves traveling to see everyone and I felt like we all went back to reality a little worse for the wear.

This year, we didn’t travel and spent a whole lot of downtime at home with very little plans and it was amazing! I felt like I got a chance to invest in my kids and fill our love tanks. We are going back to routine feeling refreshed.

December was full of so many sweet memories so before I move headlong into 2019, I want to recap our full and busy month.

We started the month off with our first ever North Pole Breakfast.  Cobis, our elf, brought everyone Santa pajamas. The big kids loved it but Lucy was not thrilled about the new house guest so she boycotted breakfast for a bit.  She quickly warmed up to him as the month went on :)!

We had a double date night with our dear friends to go tour local houses all decked out for the holidays.  The tickets supported a local charity.  We had a blast and so did the kids since they were all together at one house.  We decided we need to make that an annual tradition.

The kids did their annual shopping for their siblings.  It’s so fun to spend one on one time with them and they do such a good job picking out thoughtful gifts for their siblings. We opened their gifts to each other on Christmas Eve morning so they could have their moment :).We did our fair share of baking and this year Lucy wanted to help.  She mastered the art of plopping peanut clusters on wax paper.  I think her favorite part was licking the chocolate off the spoon when we were finished though.

Vera had been asking me to come to lunch for a few weeks so one day we decided to surprise the kids and have lunch with them.  I am not sure who loved it more.  Lucy was pretty excited to be a big kid and go to school with her Poppy lunchbox.

We celebrated Christmas with Scott’s parents and spent the night even though they live in town.  It was fun to do that since Scott and I never stay.  They made Quincy a matching stocking and Santa even filled it when he came on Christmas.

My sister’s family and parents arrived on the 23rd for 3 fast, full and fun days.  My mom always gets us matching pajamas this year she got us blinking winter hats too.  Two years ago we started a tradition of going to get hot cocoa at Starbucks and then driving to see Christmas lights.  Everyone was a good sport!

Christmas Eve we decorated gingerbread houses, played games and opened a few presents throughout the day.  Then, we all got dressed up for Christmas Eve candlelight service.

After church, we came home and tried to take family photos but the kids were ready for dinner especially a little 3-year-old who hadn’t napped 😉 so we got a few pictures like the one below before calling it quits!  We changed into our matching Christmas pajamas and had a bunch of appetizers before opening family gifts.  We finished the night reading the night before Christmas.

The next morning the kids didn’t wake up until 7 am!  Santa had arrived and we spent the rest of the day playing with all of our gifts.  My grandparents came for lunch and we played games!  It was a really relaxing fun day!

My parents left the 26th so we had the rest of Christmas break to just hang out!  We went to see Mary Poppins Returns at our new movie theatre and rung in the new year with our dear friends.

We started off 2019 pretty low-key with a whole lot of snuggling, watching football, and relaxing.  We are all sad to see our time together go but we had a great December, Christmas and relaxing time together!

2018 was full of so many new things.  My top nine reflected so many of the highlights from our adoption journey, our new niece, sweet family moments and launching the Simple Purposeful Living Shop.  2018 was a year of a lot of learning to let go control, laugh without fear of the future and stepping out in faith.  We are excited to see what 2019 will bring!  We wait in expectant hope.  Wishing you and yours a blessed 2019!

Until then, I am joining a new weekly link-up – Welcome Wednesday! So if you blog, make sure you join in :).

Until next time keep on keeping on with a simple purposeful life!
