Magnolia Two-Day Girls Trip Itinerary

May 25, 2022

magnolia market ands silos girls trip 2 day itenerary waco texas

My oldest daughter and I just got back from an unforgettable trip to the Magnolia Silos in Waco, TX. Vera (my daughter) loves Joanna Gaines and looks up to her as they have the same interests. So, when it was time for her to pick her destination for her one-on-one trip with Mom for her 10th birthday, she chose to visit the Magnolia Market & Silos.

I must admit that she’s a super fan, but once I was there, I became a super fan, too. The staff was so happy and kind and the customer service was impeccable, the grounds were beautiful and there was so much to do. So, let me share with you what we did for the two days we were in Waco, TX, visiting the Magnolia Market & Silos.

Psst…if you are getting ready to travel, you might need our trip planner with trip itinerary printables, travel checklist, and more. Grab it here.

Magnolia Table

We flew into Dallas, which is just under a 2-hour drive to Waco. We headed to Magnolia Table, which is actually a mile away from the Silos, but right off the interstate, so a great place to start.

Just a reminder, Magnolia Table serves breakfast and lunch from 6 AM – 3 PM daily and is closed on Sunday. You can make reservations online 30 days before your visit, fyi. We checked in, went to the bathroom, toured the takeaway area, snapped some photos, made a list of all the state’s license plates (there were a lot of states represented), and enjoyed the grounds while we waited for the table.

I enjoyed the Eggs Benedict, and Vera got the Gaines Brothers burger. Both were delicious and were big portions. We also had to try the lavender lemon doughnut holes, which were our favorite part of the meal.

Waco Tours Bus Tour

Next up, we headed over to downtown Waco to catch our Waco Tours bus tour. It was a great way to familiarize yourself with the city and its history (did you know Dr. Pepper was created there?), drive by many houses featured on Fixer Upper, grab a coffee at the famous Common Grounds, and tour Harp Design Co. The tour guides are fun and entertaining, it was a great 2.5 hours well spent. Check out all the tour information here.

Even if you don’t take a tour, I would recommend stopping by Common Grounds Coffee (featured on the show Fixer Upper), and right next door is the Heritage Creamery.

Magnolia – Little Shop on Bosque

No trip to Waco would be complete without a trip to the store that started it all. It’s a great place to stop because that’s where they house all the discounted and last-chance items. So, you can snag a great deal and see where it all began.

Harp Design Co.

Clint Harp played an important role on the show Fixer Upper, and his iconic Fixer Upper house and studio are also a must-see on the Waco tour.

Baylor University Tour & Dinner

After Magnolia closed, we met up with some of our neighbors who attended Baylor for a tour of the campus and a trip to their favorite college hangout, Shorty’s Pizza Shack, for their famous pizza pockets. We tried to see Baylor’s two bears, but it was hot, and the bears were inside enjoying the AC!

After dinner and about 13,000 steps for the day, we headed back to the hotel and fell into bed.

Day 2 at Magnolia Market & Silos

After a quick breakfast at the hotel, we headed right over to Magnolia Market when it opened at 9 am (just a reminder, it’s closed on Sunday). We found it wasn’t as busy right when it opened so it was a perfect time to snag some photos with the iconic signs and murals around the grounds. There is free parking located on the street and to the west of the Silos.

Photo Booth

We popped into the photo booth to memorialize our trip with a little fun photo booth. We got in early, so there wasn’t a line. You get two copies of the photos for $5, and it’s a great souvenir. It’s right across from the ball field.

Magnolia Press

After some photos, we headed over to Magnolia Press, the coffee shop, for some coffee (be sure to get either the lavender latte or the 1905 latte; both are excellent).

Magnolia Home

After we enjoyed the coffee shop, we headed right next door to the Magnolia Home showroom. There are lots of accessories and homewares in addition to their furniture. It was fun to peek around and gain inspiration for our own home. We sniffed all the candles too.

Little Shops & Restored Church

Next up were the six little shops located by the restored church. Each shop has its own theme. Chip’s store had lots of men-inspired items. We picked up a really cool national park book for Scott. Vera enjoyed the bath & body shop and purchased a few things there and I found a shirt at Joanna’s clothing store. The leather goods store smelled divine and was filled with beautiful leather purses and jewelry.

It was also fun to peek in and sit at the church they moved from a different spot in Waco and restored.

Play Ball on Katy Field

Next up, Vera wanted to play a little wiffle ball on Katy field. There were balls and bats available to use, and we enjoyed a nice game before we let someone else have a turn.

Magnolia Market

Of course, we stopped into Magnolia Market to get our t-shirts, stickers, ornament to memorialize the trip and a few cute housewares. They do an impeccable job of styling the store. You can’t help but take pictures.

Magnolia Seed & Supply Store

To the right of the silos is a sweet and peaceful garden area with the Seed & Supply Store. They have a variety of gardening supplies, including seeds, pots, flour sack towels, and more. The grounds are just so beautiful, you can feel the essence of Joanna’s touch every where you go.

Magnolia Green Space

In between shopping, we stopped to enjoy the shade and green space in front of the iconic silos. We grabbed a shaved ice and enjoyed the black and white beanbag chairs. It was fun to take it all in. The crowds thin as the day draws to a close, so it’s a great place to end your day. We enjoyed playing with bags and washers as well. It’s a great place to grab a snack from one of the food trucks, but just an FYI, some of them close before Magnolia closes at 6 pm.

Silos Baking Co.

Our last stop of the day after lounging in the shade was the Silos Baking Co. While waiting. I was sure to ask the workers what the most popular flavors were so we could be sure to sample those. They recommended the lemon lavender cupcake, and while I wouldn’t have chosen it, I can see why it was popular! It was delicious. Don’t forget to grab a picture of the stools on the side of the building in front of the Magnolia black and white mural (pictured above).

This is also where the #milestomagnolia sign is that you see often in photographs as well!

A Few More Frequently Asked Questions

Where We Stayed

Our good friend, who’s daughters attends Baylor University (located not too far from the Silos) recommended staying at the La Quinta Inn. It’s fairly new, has a free breakfast buffet, and is just down the road from the Silos. You drive right by the Shot Gun House from Fixer Upper on S. Ninth St. on the way to the Silos from the hotel.

Where We Ate

We mostly ate at Magnolia from the Silos Baking Co, to food trucks, Magnolia Press and Magnolia Table, there was plenty of options to enjoy.

We were told Whataburger has incredible chicken biscuits, we didn’t get there this time but that would be a great, quick breakfast if you should need one. We ate at Torchy’s Tacos (Vera wasn’t a huge fan because they don’t have ground beef tacos, FYI). I liked it but be sure to ask for flour tortillas, the corn tortillas aren’t my favorite.

A few more restaurants were recommended to us, but we didn’t make it to:

  • Diamondbacks, if you are in the mood for a steak.
  • Moroso was recommended for pizza & pasta.
  • Alpha Omega for Greek food.
  • Yaki for rice bowls.

Other Places To Stop & See While in Waco

HEB – HEB is the beloved Texas grocery store (my brother-in-law also works for them). If you need anything, I’d recommend stopping in. They also have a great selection of pre-made meals if you want to eat at home one night.

Buccee’s – You have heard it said “everything is bigger in Texas”. You have to see a Buccee’s to understand it’s size, if you are driving, stop by a Buccee’s. They advertise they have the cleanest bathrooms in Texas, and you can buy almost anything there.

Spice Village – Spice Village is a large gift shop with different boutiques within it. It’s all air-conditioned, so a great place to spend an hour or two and cool off.

The Findery – It’s right across from the silos and adjacent to the free parking. They have two buildings, and some fun finds if you are in the mood for more shopping.

When Did We Go?

We went right after Baylor Graduation and right before k-12 school got out. There were minimal crowds, especially at the beginning and end of the day. The Magnolia staff said it was unusually quiet, so it’s a great time to go. It’s hot but not unbearable.

Just Remember…

Don’t forget the Magnolia Silos are closed on Sunday, so if you are planning a weekend trip, plan accordingly! I’d highly suggest sitting in the shade in a black and white beanbag, it was just so fun to sit and take it all in.

The staff at Magnolia are so kind and they have impeccable customer service, while I wasn’t a mega fan before we went, I am now. Vera and I definitely would love to go back someday. I hope you enjoy your trip as much as we did!
