Life Lately Volume 13 March 2019

Friends, I am still shaking about our latest news.  Not only are we I-800 approved but so are my sister-in-law and brother-in-law (read more about our adoption here).  They started the adoption process about 6 months before us so never in our wildest dreams did we think we would travel together.  We are all just giddy at the story God is writing!  The kids are so pumped to experience it all with their cousins by their side and we are thankful to share this very special experience with family!  Most likely, our two kiddos will share the same gotcha day forever. EEEK!

But before we travel to China, let’s recap a very busy and full March.  It’s been just over a month since we have been matched and we have been filling out paperwork, spring breaking and making lots of memories while we wait to get Quincy!

Solon finished up his basketball season and we were surprised to find out he was awarded the “best teammate” award for the program.  The director mentioned a time early on in the season where Solon was running the sideline, cheering on his teammates by name early on in the season.  We are proud of his hard work, effort and mostly that he is a good teammate!

Scott and I attended our first murder mystery party and despite what the picture depicts we were both acquitted of murder.  We went with our small group.  I was the heiress and Scott was the professional croquet player.  I was so excited to find my dress second-hand and am already scheming a way to use it again :)!

My cousin Madelynne invited us to her sorority’s mom’s weekend.  People often think she’s my daughter when she’s with us!  We had fun painting and going out to lunch with her sisters.

Lucy and I got to go to school and read to Vera’s class for Dr. Seuss’ birthday.  Lucy was so happy.  Vera picked the book Don’t Blink (find it here) for me to read and it’s a new favorite around here.

We had a down day at home so Scott and the girls got busy baking banana bread in the kitchen.  He was shocked to see it was all eaten in 48 hours.  It never lasts long :)!

We got a sneak peek of the girls dance costumes when they tried them on this month.  They can’t wait for their recital in May!

Find My Rainboots Here

All that snow from January and February melted in one week so there were lots of puddles and a little river in our backyard to explore.  Sidenote, I was exploring with Solon when I stepped and my boots went about 2 feet down and proceeded to fill with ice cold water.  I momentarily thought I would be there until Scott got home because my boots were suctioned to the spot but thankfully Solon helped me out :)!

The kids’ passports finally arrived which meant we could apply for our Chinese visas!  We spend the month getting all the paperwork and copies prepared for that.  We hope to get those back in April.

We took a day trip to visit Scott’s Grandma Olive for her 99th birthday.  We took her to lunch and enjoyed some birthday cake.  She had fun treating the kids to seconds of cake and I could listen to her farm and childhood stories all day long.  We also taught her how to marco polo with Scott’s parents which she enjoyed.

Then, for spring break we headed to my parents.  They gifted us tickets to come to visit for Christmas and after the winter we had, we were especially thankful.  As part of my mom’s Christmas gift, we went on a helicopter trip to an amethyst mine at the top of Four Peaks.  It’s the only American amethyst mine and the only mine in the world that doesn’t have a road to it.  You either have to hike 2 miles in or go by helicopter.   It was such a cool experience and we brought home all sorts of raw amethyst we found on the ground.

The rest of the week we spent swimming in my parents backyard, playing bocce ball, watching March Madness and eating on their patio.  I read two books while we were away and managed to mostly go from a swimsuit to pajamas most days.  I golfed with my dad and Solon one day and then Scott, Solon, my dad and brother-in-law golfed one day!

Swan Pool Float

One evening we got dressed up, played a little putt-putt and then had a nice dinner as a family.  We got a good temporary family picture until Quincy comes home.  My sister and brother-in-law plan to come to the lake for the 4th of July to meet Quincy!

We wrapped up the month celebrating our I800 approval.  We have 3 more little paperwork things to complete and then we can start making travel arrangements!  Wahoo.  I am starting to think about what we need to pack and making summer plans around our trip.  We all can’t believe it’s right around the corner!

First, we are looking forward to celebrating Easter with my parents, watching Solon play a lot of baseball and start to enjoy the spring-like weather April brings!  That’s a little life lately!
