March in Pictures (most of March anyway)…

Oh my word March came and went in a hurry!  We went on one last big trip before baby arrives to Colorado with my family.  Let me clear something up, no we are not made of money…my parents are very generous, my dad travels A LOT for work and shares their precious miles with us and my grandparents share their timeshare SO we are very blessed to tag along (I think its because we are attached to some really cute kids).  We also planned all of these trips BEFORE we knew we were expecting!  I will detail the trip in another post but it was awesome, the kids learned to ski and the weather was about as perfect as it gets when skiing!
We are in a parenting study at church right now.  The information is nothing new or earth-shattering but the premise is to be intentional about what you do with your kids.  Sometimes when we are looking face to face at concepts, you are reminded of some things that you do that really do matter.  They encouraged us to make dates as a family free of technology.  So we decided to go to Mexican for dinner ( a sure win we thought but it was a fail, new restaurant, bad food…) and then bowling at Bass Pro Shop but the wait was 2 hours when we arrived…2 fails in one night.  Luckily we punted, bribed the kids with candy and played on the “ships” and dreamed of summer!  It ended up being a really fun evening out.  Scott and I decided it is a lot harder in winter to come up with fun family outings that don’t cost lots of money.  We love to go to parks, state parks, biking, walks, etc. in the spring/summer/fall and all of those things are free…so we have to really stretch our creative thinking!

In big news Solon lost his first tooth and his adult tooth is almost completely in (isn’t that kind of crazy and freakishly weird).  He showed me one morning just how wiggly it had gotten, think perpendicular from where it should be – yuck.  I said to get an apple and I bet it would pop right out.  Bite 2 and we had ourselves our first lost tooth.  Vera was a touch traumatized and would not eat apples for a good week following as she thought her teeth would pop out too…
The tooth fairy brought a fair going rate $1 bill and Solon was tickled!  We have no other wiggly teeth, not even the dead one from the bike accident that is gray…so my parent shame continues indefinitely!

We snuck in lots and lots of doll and imaginative play time this month.  Both Solon and Vera love to play house and grocery store.  My goal this month was to play more with them, I did better ;).  I have noticed we use about every toy we own these days but they go in phases with what interests them.  One week, playmobil…the next, legos, then blocks and road building…

Oh and of course we are starting to get out the “real” baby items and someone has to test every.single.item out first…
We went and signed our taxes and then for the first time in nearly 9 years of marriage we spent our tax refund and in record time (like 30 minutes later) on a new adjustable basketball hoop.  The kids enjoyed playing while daddy got it ordered.  They were running a special so we even got a free Cyclones pad for the pole.  It is already installed and has gotten hours of use already!  A worthwhile investment in family time for years to come…

We finally have had some NICE weather sprinkled in too, nothing consistent yet, but when its nice we take advantage and dusted off all the toys and swing set.  Solon is an expert pumped and as Vera says “Daddy learned her to pump!”  She is still working on it but she did graduate to the junior swing ;).

We also got to host Grace, Lance and Raquel for 3 glorious days over spring break!  We snuck in some time to put on variety shows (oh the memories of when I did this with my cousins).  We also went to Big Creek State Park for picnic and play, outside play, glow golfing, cupcake date, and a trip to see the baby at the OB!  We all had fun and I stayed up way past my bedtime laughing with Scott and Raquel about anything and everything…I counted that as my workout!

Since I have had no complications in previous pregnancies, my high risk OB has released me to just monthly ultrasounds on their fancy machines 😉 and consult as needed.  This means my appointments are much faster and I can take people with me.  That ultrasound tech in the picture is my favorite and she rocks with kids…
We also snuck in some out to eat time (I look ginormous in this picture, floral is not flattering – who knew?).
…and before we knew it they had to head back to MN!  Luckily they live close enough now, we get to see them bunches.  They even get to be here when baby is born…we have NEVER lived close enough for that to occur! WAHOO.

On the first day of spring, we went to target to buy our annual bubble machine.  Seriously if you don’t’ have one, you need one.  My kids beg for one every year but they only last about one summer ;).

…and we started swimming lessons again.  Solon already moved up a level but both kids are doing great and we really like our new swim school.  Its in WDM so we have a bit of a commute but luckily so far the kids’ classes are at the same time!
…and I will fill you in on my March goals and how I did soon!  I will say having those in the back of my mind helped me to be intentional and held me accountable.  I can’t believe March has come and gone…April is equally busy with Easter, a bridal shower/bachelorette party for my sister and lots of stuff in between!
