Pumpkin Parable

Write these commandments that I’ve given you today on your hearts. Get them inside of you and then get them inside your children. Talk about them wherever you are, sitting at home or walking in the street; talk about them from the time you get up in the morning to when you fall into bed at night.

Deut. 6:6-8 (The Message)
Have you heard of the pumpkin parable?  It’s a great way to share the gospel with your kids while you carve pumpkins.  We all desire to be intentional in sharing the gospel with our kids.  Whether its teaching them bible verses, reading a devotion with them at night, and sharing what they learned at Sunday School over the Sunday lunch table.

My mother-in-law gifted us the Pumpkin Parable book several years ago and it retells the story of the farmer picking a pumpkin (you and me), cleaning out the yucky insides (our sin) and carving a beautiful face and then lighting it up (the holy spirit in us).  It’s a great way for us to visually see how God removes our sin and places His light in us.

We like to use drill bits of various sizes to make polka dots.  The kids love pulling the trigger and making lots of fun designs.

In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
Matthew 5:16 (NIV)
Until next time, keep on keeping on with a simple, purposeful life so you can do what matters most with those that matter most!
