Grandma’s Simple Bacon Green Beans

The smell of bacon wafting from my grandmother’s kitchen and I knew what the meant. We were having Grandma’s famous bacon green beans. My mom has carried on the tradition and now so have I.

My kid’s truly believe there is no other way to eat green beans and quite frankly I am with them. Not only do they smell amazing, they taste amazing and they are SO simple to make meaning you will never ever make green beans any other way again either. You are welcome.

Let’s get cooking Grandma’s bacon green beans, shall we?

Bacon Green Beans Ingredients

  • 1 Tablespoon bacon grease
  • 5-6 strips cooked bacon
  • 1 16 oz bag frozen whole green beans

How to prepare Grandma’s bacon green beans?

Grandma always started by adding 5-6 pieces of thick slides hickory smoked bacon to a fry pan and cook until they were crispy. She set the bacon off to the side once cooked and DO NOT drain the bacon grease.

Add in the frozen green beans and sauté. Cut up the bacon and sprinkle on top once the green beans are cooked through. Easy peasy right?

Now, often times I just grab 1 tablespoon of bacon grease I keep in a tin can in my fridge and melt in a fry pan before adding in the green beans and chopping cooked bacon I already have on hand. That works great too!

Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of green beans should you use for bacon green beans?

I use frozen because it’s simple and I always have them on hand but my mom uses canned green beans. You can also use fresh green beans as well. Both canned and fresh green beans will take less time to cook.

Can you use pre-cooked bacon?

You sure can. Often times the pre-cooked bacon isn’t as flavorful or thick so I would add in a couple of slices to get the same taste. Use 1 tablespoon of butter instead of the bacon grease.

What do you eat with your bacon green beans?

My mom always serves it with this hash brown casserole recipe and bbq chicken. We eat them with just about anything. They pair great with pasta, bbq, grilled meat and casseroles like this chicken stuffing bake or these delicious sweet bbq meatballs.

What other green bean recipes can I make?

If you haven’t tried the Italian chicken, green beans and potatoes recipe yet, you are missing out. It’s one of my most popular recipes. It’s so simple too!

What can I use the rest of the bacon for?
