The Best Gift Devotion Series | Elizabeth

In case you missed it —
Let’s continue in our study of God’s people blessed to be part of the First Christmas and how they responded to the best gift of all – Jesus.

Let’s read Luke 1:39-45.

39 At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea,40 where she entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth. 41 When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. 42 In a loud voice she exclaimed: “Blessed are you among women,and blessed is the child you will bear! 43 But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? 44 As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. 45 Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!”
Elizabeth rejoiced at the announcement of God’s gift and was not envious.
Elizabeth knew (from the holy spirit within her) that Mary was carrying the Messiah.  She was so excited, humbled and in awe of the news.  Now, Mary’s son was the greatest of all.  Elizabeth, although pregnant, with her own son (John the Baptist) could have been envious for the special gift set aside for Mary but she wasn’t, instead she rejoiced with Mary.
An antidote to envy is rejoicing with each other.

 Do nothing out of selfish ambition of vain conceit.  Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of others. {Philippians 2:3-4}

It’s so easy to be envious of others and their gifts, their decor, their talents, and so on and so forth.  Let’s rejoice with others when they rejoice.
Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. {Romans 12:15}

Elizabeth and Mary had much to rejoice about but the day was coming when Mary would lose her son to the cross and then she would need her friend to mourn with her.

This Christmas let’s be like Elizabeth and rejoice with others.

Until next time, keep on keeping on with an intentional, joyful, faith-filled life.  #tribekoko
